Kendrick Lamar Talks His Greatest Record, Donald Trump & More

Kendrick Lamar drops knowledge in an extensive and insightful interview.
While Kendrick Lamar is still coming off the buzz of securing five Grammys, the talented artist seems positioned to continue his winning streak into 2018. The DAMN. rapper recently sat down to chop it up with Touré, of The Touré show, for a detailed interview. Throughout the forty-odd minutes, the pair discuss a wide variety of topics, ranging from Kendrick’s favorite of his records, Donald Trump, practicing the art of rapping, giving back to his maad city, Obama, and more.
Right off the bat, Kendrick reveals his favorite record, a To Pimp A Butterfly fan favorite. “Alright,” says Kendrick. “I’ll say that’s one of my greatest records cause it gave these kids an actual voice, and the actual practice to go outside and make a difference.” There’s an interesting moment where Touré asks Kendrick about his practice ritual, which starts with listening to the rappers who inspire him – Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, and Snoop. “Being in that studio, writing terrible verses, writing terrible hooks,” laughs Kendrick. “Letting your homeboys friends and people you trust tell you that’s garbage, growing thick skin, and getting back in there to do it all again.”
In other news, Kendrick Lamar recently shared the stacked track-list for Black Panther: The Album. The project features five tracks from Kendrick, as well as appearances from ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Future, SZA, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, James Blake, Swae Lee, Jorja Smith, Anderson Paak. and more. Check that out right here, and remember, that project is set to drop on February 9th.
